Warnings
Not recommended:
- In case of stones caused by calcium oxalate, ammonium urate or cystine.
- If urine acidifying medications are used concomitantly.
- During metabolic or renal acidosis.
- In case of heart failure, hypertension, edema.
- For kittens, pregnant or lactating cats.
Additional information
- Dividing the daily dose of SPECIFIC™ FSW Struvite Dissolution into 3 or 4 servings reduces the increase in urine pH after meals.
- Once the struvite stones have dissolved (usually after 1-2 months), the food should be changed to SPECIFIC™ FCD/FCW/FCW-P Crystal Management or SPECIFIC™ FCD-L Crystal Management Light to prevent the stones from recurring.
- Wet food is recommended for cats with recurrent struvite stones, as it provides cats with more water, which increases urine volume, reduces the concentration of minerals in the urine, and increases urination frequency.
- Although magnesium ammonium phosphate (struvite) stones are the most common, they should not be considered the sole cause of all types of stones. It is important to identify the type of bladder stone as different types of stones require different feeding strategies to dissolve them (see SPECIFIC™ Technical Data).
