Hyaluronic acid makes joint cartilage more flexible and resistant to damage and stress. Hyaluronic acid is one of the main components of synovial fluid, which has physical properties similar to rubber. The viscosity of synovial fluid is inversely related to the amount of water. Less water means higher viscosity. This effect works in the joint - when the joint is pressed, the water is displaced, thereby reducing the pressure. It also has a significant analgesic effect.
